There’s a reason I always give out about Jargon!
It’s ruining your speaking, writing, and storytelling skills
It makes you sound like an amateur, a dork, a snake-oil salesmen, or a weirdo
Let me give you an example from a guy who I’m currently training who’s working on sales in the field of Psychology
You see, Psychology is rancid
It’s full of these Jargonites
From the salesmen, the teachers, to the psychologists themselves
They love abstractions that are empty words
When you learn to use language proffesionally you quickly learn to hunt out such empty speak
You develop a smell for bullshit
This guys pitch was:
“To promote holistic masculinity and creativity in individuals who lack the individuality to do so themselves, utilizing a framework of action-oriented Jungian psychological tools and interpersonal exercises alongside a community of like-minded individuals.”
Spot the jargon for me…
– holistic masculinity
– individuality
– Jungian psychological tools
– interpersonal exercises
Oof… A barrage of buzzwords
Now, buzzwords can of course “sell”, especially in fields like Psychology where the audience is “programmed” by the Psychologists to “worship” sacred Jargon
“Oh, that’s YOUR SHADOW talking, and it’s clear you’re NOT IN TOUCH WITH YOURSELF, which is causing BPD and INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS, here the simplest thing is to take this prescription for Adderral I get a commission on and then come see me twice a week for 5 years and we’ll do INNER WORK”
Hahaha, how convenient, I’d explain it this way:
Psychology is the priesthood reborn in the modern age, only now they bible bash you with buzzwords

If you want to think
If you want to know
If you want to truly possess articulate power and be effective with your “alledged” noble goal of “helping people”
You need to tame your mind to the PERSON, not the JARGON
Psychologists are such an embarrassment because this is something any half decent writer or marketer understands:
YOU PUT YOUR EGO ASIDE
You deploy empathy over pseudo-intellectual arrogance
You exclusively focus on the persons EXPERIENCE not the abstractions that YOU “ENJOY” using to organise YOUR mind
You’d imagine psychologists should have figured that out? hahahaha
Ask yourself, when dealing with a person
What would be their experience of victory?
What would be their experience of pain?
What would be their experience of learning?
Obbsess about these questions…
For exmaple, later in this guys presentation he makes this statement, which is a little bit better:
“Free your mind and spirit by becoming an individual rather than serving as a machine”
Now we’re getting into something EXPERIENCED
People FEEL imprisoned by modern life – people wish to be FREE This is the challenge; think MORE specific about their experience — For example, from my own “shtick”:
“You wake up, roll over to shut off your alarm, your eyes are inflamed from a shit diet, your heads pounding, and the negative voice in your head clicks into gear: “urgh, not work again”
You slump out of bed and have to show up to a shitty mundane job filing excel sheets. Your snotty manager is forcing you to train an ideological hire who is stoned all the time and has no interest in the job… I guess they’re a lot like you only they have the balls to show they don’t care…
Your plagued by the voice in your head: “I hate my life, I hate who I am, I want to change”
So you ask yourself… How would you change? What do you need to do to transform your situation? It isn’t going to be playing video games, it isn’t going to be drugs or escapism, it isn’t going to be filling your head with abstractions and jargon. There’s no magic words that will save you… You suffer because you are incompetent. You are not able to ACT SKILLFULLY to change your circumstance. If you told me you wanted to win a fight against someone but you were sad because it was too hard and overwhelming… My answer would be simple: you need more training.
Skills are what would unlock opportunity for you, skills are what would set you on the path to realise your potential – skills are what would allow you to walk into work in 6 months and tell that manager you quit – If only you took yourself serious enough to gain those skills…”

Now, Do you understand why this would work? You’re SHOWING the DIRECT experience of the person you’re trying to move
Now, compare that with shelling him with jargon… will that arouse a CLEAR PICTURE OF THEIR SITUATION? NO.
How can the take effective action upon the world if they DO NOT HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT HIS SITUATION IS?
Ah… and now we see the POINT of Psychology It has evolved to obscure…
It has evolved to imprison people in jargon…
That way they CAN’T see how to take action…
That way they REMAIN stuck in their situation…
That way their pain STAYS WITH THEM and feels as if it has no solution…
Of course then the Psychologist has then Ju Jistu’ed them into the perfect HOLD
The Psychologists offers them their “trademarked” way to transform: Drugs and years of “Talk Therapy”

Do you understand what I’m saying here?
If you want to move people
If you want to “save people”
If you want to have an effect on their mind
Start by understanding their mind!
Now, I train this in my Program
If you want to develop this skill so you can be more effective as a speaker, click here and check out my free video on how that works
You have a gift for telling it like it is.
Stef, glad to see you are in line with the daily b.s. of linguistics. In a few of my Analysist groups I’ve heard jargon used for the sake of arguing, but all along the majority of people are not commenting because no one has a clue what the two are actually talking about. ;). I’m glad you met Joseph, I believe I might have been one of the first to suggest that you meet. It’s a small, small word;)
